Circle CCTP Adds Prepaid Transfer Fee Support Across All EVM Chains

Circle announced on September 8 that its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol now supports prepaid gas fees for USDC transfers across all EVM-compatible chains. Previously, protocol fees were deducted directly from the USDC transfer amount on the destination chain; with this update, developers can prepay transaction fees before executing a transfer using the source chain's native gas token or USDC, ensuring users receive the full expected amount of USDC. The prepaid fee mechanism primarily improves fee predictability in cross-chain applications, eliminating the risk of reduced actual received amounts due to additional deductions on the destination chain. The CCTP Quote API now provides unified fee quotes across different supported chains, integrating Fast Transfer and Forwarding fees into a single quote, eliminating the need for developers to build separate systems to calculate multiple protocol fees. Fees can be paid directly using the source chain's native token without reducing or impacting the actual USDC balance being transferred. Currently, the prepaid fee feature supports USDC transfers on all EVM chains covered by CCTP, but does not support transfers initiated from Solana; transfers to Solana remain supported. Developers can access the feature through the Quote API and refer to CCTP official documentation to build more predictable cross-chain USDC transfer processes. CRCL declined 3.23% on the news, while USDC remained stable and SOL gained 0.67%.

Quote API统一报价太刚需了,以前算个跨链费要调七八个接口,现在一次搞定

CCTP made a brilliant move: prepaid gas makes cross-chain transfers as seamless as local transfers, saving developers a major hassle.

Finally, there’s no need to pay gas fees on the destination chain—the user experience is now top-notch.

Not supporting transfers from Solana is a bit unfortunate, but being able to transfer in is still a compromise. Let’s wait for future updates.
