#Gate用户突破6000万 I sold my Dogecoin at ¥0.02, and later it rose 250x
In 2018, I discovered Gate and bought my first-ever coin—Dogecoin, at ¥0.05 each.
At the time, I called it buying the dip. Only later did I realize it was a bear-market entry ticket, the kind that comes with tuition fees.
It kept falling, and my balance kept shrinking, faster than my abs ever appeared from working out. I really couldn't take it anymore, so I cut my losses at ¥0.02, losing 60%. After selling, I was still pretty pleased with myself, telling myself: "Cut losses in time. Discipline is everything."
Looking back, that line should have come with the BGM of “Love Trade.”
In 2021, Dogecoin went crazy. Musk shilled it, the whole internet turned it into a meme, and one coin surged to nearly ¥5.
I did the math on my fingers: the coins I sold at ¥0.02 had risen to ¥5—a 250x increase. What does 250x mean? That night, I slapped my thigh until it became a drum kit, and my bed frame turned so green it could pass for a candlestick chart.
Eventually, I understood: people in crypto really fall into just two categories—the ones who have sold too early, and the ones currently selling too early.
You can't earn money beyond your understanding, and you can't hold onto something you never truly believed in. Back then, I panicked not because I had calculated that it would go to zero, but because I had never studied why it existed in the first place—the root of panic is having no conviction.
So I accept this tuition fee:
Cutting losses wasn't wrong; the mistake was treating "panic" as "discipline";
Going all in wasn't wrong; the mistake was treating "your entire net worth" as "a position";
Selling too early wasn't wrong; the mistake was only slapping your thigh afterward and learning nothing else.
Today, Gate already has more than 60 million users. Behind those 60 million accounts are probably 60 million dogs that sold too early: some people rode it to the moon, while others, like me, turned it into a punchline.
That's fine, too. At least this story can now be submitted for the "This Can Happen?" Award, turning sadness into blind boxes—the whole point is monetizing old wounds, because knowledge (lessons) is wealth.
May we all be able to hold on when the next 100x arrives.
May our thighs only be used for walking then. 🐶
