Crypto Tip: Why Do Projects Have Vesting Periods? 🔐

When a crypto project allocates tokens to its team, investors, or advisors, those tokens may not become available all at once.

A vesting period gradually releases tokens over a set timeframe.

Why use vesting?

🔹 It can encourage long-term commitment
🔹 It prevents all allocated tokens from entering circulation immediately
🔹 It makes token distribution more structured

Vesting and token unlocks are closely related, but they aren't exactly the same thing. A vesting schedule describes how ownership becomes available over time, while an unlock is the point when previously restricted tokens become transferable or otherwise available.

Always check a project's tokenomics and upcoming unlocks before making investment decisions.

Do you check a project's vesting schedule before investing? 👀👇

The longer the team’s tokens are locked, the more trustworthy they are—who would trust tokens unlocked after three months?

Directly pass on projects with overly concentrated short-term unlocks—the selling pressure is too much to bear.

Institutional investors all require vesting, while retail investors are more likely to overlook this aspect.

When viewed alongside vesting and cliff schedules, the release after the gap period is more devastating.

Long-term commitment is easy to talk about; open-sourcing the code and locking up tokens is what really counts.

“Structured distribution” in plain English means not dumping everything at once.

I didn’t understand this before and got trapped chasing the price on the eve of the unlock—a brutal lesson.

Checking unlock dates is more important than looking at candlestick charts, especially for small-cap coins.
