Apple's 20th-Anniversary iPhone Planned for 2027 With Curved Glass and Narrower Bezels

Apple is reportedly preparing a special iPhone for 2027 to celebrate the device's 20th anniversary, featuring a major redesign that could bring curved glass around every corner and edge, along with significantly thinner bezels around the display. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple is developing the 20th-anniversary iPhone with curved glass covering all corners and edges, describing it as the biggest redesign of the current iPhone Pro line since the iPhone X launched in 2017. The curved glass design would give the anniversary iPhone a more continuous appearance around the front and sides, while thinner bezels would allow Apple to expand the visible display area without significantly increasing the phone's overall size.

Rumors suggest the screen bezels could be as thin as 1.1 mm, compared to 1.44 mm on the iPhone 17 Pro. The device may feature a "quad-curved screen design" with an all-glass, borderless appearance. Leaks suggest the phone will feature curved glass on every side, something Apple has never attempted before, paired with shrinking bezels that leave almost nothing but screen. There are reports that Apple may name this display technology "Liquid Glass Display," echoing the liquid glass design language that has been part of iOS since version 26. Apple is expected to release two size versions, similar to the current Pro line, with a 6.3-inch model.

Apple is also developing several other products for 2027, including its second-generation foldable iPhone, updated smart glasses, camera-equipped AirPods, and refreshed Macs and iPads. However, the 20th-anniversary iPhone stands out because Apple appears ready to give its flagship smartphone its most significant visual redesign since the iPhone X changed the iPhone lineup ten years earlier. The company still has more than a year before the expected 2027 launch, so design elements could evolve as Apple progresses through engineering and production testing. While cancellation rumors have occasionally clouded its future, the 20th-anniversary iPhone remains one of Apple's most anticipated products, representing a potential inflection point in smartphone design.

It will be exactly ten years from the iPhone X to 2027—Apple knows how to mark a round-number anniversary.

Liquid Glass Display is really riding the iOS 26 hype, but the 1.1mm bezel is genuinely impressive.
