Mars Finance reports that Polish prosecutors have charged Roman Ż., the former business partner of missing BitBay/Zondacrypto founder Sylwester Suszek, with two offenses, including fraud. Roman Ż. was arrested last Saturday in Poland’s Silesia region. His lawyer said he had helped manage the exchange before BitBay was renamed Zonda. Roman Ż. denies the charges and provided investigators with a detailed statement. During the search, police seized valuable watches and documents related to Zondacrypto. Prosecutors said they ordered the arrest out of concern that Roman Ż. might flee after learning that he planned to travel to China. His lawyer said the trip was for business and that he held a return ticket dated September 13. The court will decide whether Roman Ż. will remain in custody during the investigation. Previously, BitBay was renamed Zondacrypto in 2021. The exchange halted trading in April after customers faced frozen withdrawals, with losses expected to total at least 35 million zloty (approximately $94 million). Estonia’s Financial Intelligence Unit partially suspended the license of the branded entity BB Trade Estonia OÜ. Polish prosecutors have launched an investigation into suspected large-scale fraud and money laundering and had received more than 3,600 complaints as of June. The case is also connected to Suszek’s disappearance in March 2022. In August, prosecutors merged the Zondacrypto investigation with the investigation into Suszek’s disappearance.
