Vitalik Buterin has shared an interesting long-term outlook for cryptography.
He estimates a 60% chance that three major technologies SNARKs, FHE and iO could eventually reach less than 10x computational overhead.
The more immediate possibility is SNARKs. Vitalik believes there is a good chance they could reach single-digit overhead before the end of this decade.
If that happens, cheaper cryptographic computation could have major implications for blockchain scalability, privacy and verification.
It’s an optimistic prediction, not a guaranteed timeline but definitely an interesting development to watch.
