LG Uplus Forms PMDC Alliance to Develop 100MW Modular AI Data Centers
LG Uplus announced on September 6 that it has formed the "PMDC Alliance" with four local construction and design companies to develop standardized models for prefabricated modular AI data centers. The partners include GS Engineering & Construction, Xi C&A, Gansam Architects, and D&O CM. The memorandum of understanding was signed on September 4 at LG Uplus's Pyeongchon Mega Center in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province. Under the agreement, LG Uplus will establish operational standards and technical requirements, while the construction partners will contribute expertise in modular building design and rapid deployment. The alliance aims to develop 100MW modular AI data centers that can be assembled more quickly than traditional data centers, addressing the surging demand for AI computing infrastructure. Prefabricated modular construction allows for faster deployment, greater scalability, and potentially lower costs compared to conventional data center builds. This initiative reflects the intensifying competition among telecommunications companies to capture AI infrastructure opportunities, as the explosive growth of large language models and generative AI applications continues to drive unprecedented demand for computing capacity. The partnership also positions LG Uplus to offer differentiated AI data center solutions to enterprise customers seeking to deploy their own AI workloads.
