Global Investors Rotate $105 Million Unitree Robotics Trades Into Chinese AI Derivatives as STAR 50 Surges 29% Year-to-Date

Since mid-August 2026, global investors have been rapidly rotating capital away from expensive South Korean and Japanese semiconductor stocks toward Chinese equity-linked derivatives. Perpetual contracts tied to Unitree Robotics (the Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer) recorded trading volumes exceeding $105 million within 24 hours of its IPO debut, while Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT), a Chinese memory chip manufacturer that listed in July 2026, saw open interest reach approximately $66 million shortly after its listing. The STAR 50 Index, which tracks innovative enterprises on Shanghai's STAR Market, has delivered a year-to-date return of approximately 29% as of mid-August. Platforms like Hyperliquid provide offshore investors who cannot directly access China's domestic exchanges with 24/7 trading channels, enabling participation in the revaluation of Chinese AI assets. Unitree's IPO raised 6.1 billion yuan (approximately $904 million), marking the first listing of a humanoid robot manufacturer in mainland China. Global capital is now actively repricing Chinese AI assets—from primary market IPOs to secondary market derivatives—as the entire Chinese AI industry chain undergoes a comprehensive value reassessment, driven by the country's dominant position in humanoid robot shipments (over 97% of global volume) and accelerating semiconductor self-sufficiency.

I understand the logic of rotating from Korean and Japanese semiconductors into this, but isn’t a 6.6 billion position in CXMT a bit FOMO-driven?

Unitree recorded $10.5 billion in trading volume on the day of its IPO, and global capital has finally come to its senses—the 97% market share of Chinese robots is no joke.
