#Gate用户突破6000万 October 11, 2025—this was the day that taught me to remember the pain even after the wound had healed😁😁😁
Before bed that night, I was still happily looking at my positions: several grid bots had their orders neatly arranged, and the account’s unrealized profits looked encouraging. After running for days, they were like money-printing machines that never needed to rest, automatically buying low and selling high every day. I had even started calculating whether I should increase my positions next month.
Then I woke up to find that the sky had fallen.🙀🙀🙀
The market had fluctuated violently while I slept, and a sudden wick pierced straight through the grid range. My “hardworking” bots not only failed to contain the damage, but instead kept chasing orders in the one-sided market, becoming more deeply trapped with every trade… When I opened my account with trembling hands, what I saw was a row of horrifying red figures—liquidated.
Overnight, several months of profits vanished into thin air, and more than half of my principal was gone too. After reflecting on this painful lesson, I finally understood where the problem lay:
1️⃣ I only wrote a strategy for “opening positions”; I never established the discipline to “admit defeat.” The grid’s greatest enemy is not sideways movement, but a one-sided market. I knew grids were vulnerable to one-sided moves, yet I kept thinking, “Just hold on a little longer and it’ll come back.” I kept delaying the stop-loss until it eventually became the liquidation price.
2️⃣ I mistook “automation” for “custody.” A bot can execute a strategy, but it cannot make judgments. When the market moved abnormally that night, even if I had gotten up to take a look and manually cut half of my position, the outcome would have been completely different. But I didn’t.
3️⃣ I was running several grids at the same time, amplifying one another’s risks.
Diversification does not equal diversified risk—the orders pointing in the same direction are essentially countless copies of a single position. In extreme market conditions, they will only die together in perfect formation. That tuition fee was truly expensive, but it also gave me three principles etched into my bones, which I’m sharing with those of you who are also trading grids:
📍 A grid can operate without a take-profit, but it must have a stop-loss;
📍 When a one-sided market begins, manual intervention is not an “unnecessary action”—it is a matter of survival;
📍 Only ever use money you can afford to lose to run a strategy. Staying alive is what gives you another chance.
I am just an ordinary member among Gate’s 60 million users. Sixty million does not just represent scale; it also represents 60 million trading stories, each with its own joys and sorrows—some are feel-good tales of sudden wealth, while others, like mine, are painful cautionary examples. If you are also using grids and have thought, “This time will be different,” I hope my story can save you this tuition fee. Don’t let a machine decide when you should admit defeat—the discipline to do so can only come from yourself.
