60 Million Users, One Trading Journey — And a Lot of Lessons Along the Way

There is something interesting about a number like 60 million.

It sounds massive when you see it written down.

60,000,000 users.

But behind that number are millions of completely different trading journeys. Some people joined Gate to buy their first Bitcoin. Others came looking for futures, altcoins, market opportunities, or simply a better place to explore crypto. Some probably became experienced traders. Others may still be trying to understand why the market seems to move in the opposite direction of their position every time they enter.

My own story sits somewhere inside that 60 million.

I officially joined Gate in February 2025, at a time when the crypto market was already moving quickly. I had spent enough time watching charts from the sidelines to finally reach the point where I thought, “Okay, maybe it is time to actually trade.”

That decision sounds simple now.

At the time, it felt much bigger.

When I first explored Gate, what caught my attention was the overall trading experience. The interface felt clean, major trading pairs had strong liquidity, there was a wide selection of altcoins, and the futures section offered enough tools to experiment without making everything feel unnecessarily complicated.

So I deposited a modest amount and started exploring.

Then came my first real trade.

BTCUSDT perpetual.

The setup looked convincing. The higher timeframe structure appeared constructive, funding was not at an extreme level, and I convinced myself I had found a reasonable entry.

There was just one problem.

I had confidence.

But I did not yet have proper risk management.

I opened a small long position with a market order. There was no carefully planned stop-loss, no serious calculation of position size relative to my account equity, and definitely no sophisticated trading plan.

Just a chart, a trade and a lot of quiet optimism.

For a little while, the position moved in my favor.

Then Bitcoin reversed.

The green turned red, the position became uncomfortable, and I eventually closed it for a small loss.

I remember thinking that I had learned an important lesson about risk management.

Looking back now, I had learned almost nothing.

The real lesson came a few weeks later.

I discovered cross-margin and, like many beginners, immediately felt slightly more experienced than I actually was.

I found an altcoin that was trending strongly. Funding was positive. Open interest was rising. The chart looked powerful. Everything seemed to support the idea that the trend could continue.

So I opened a leveraged long.

Then the market decided to teach me another lesson.

A sharp move hit the order book.

One candle later, my position was gone.

Liquidated.

That notification was brutal, but also strangely educational.

Fortunately, the position was small enough that the financial damage was limited. The bigger impact was psychological. I had entered the trade believing that several indicators were confirming my idea, while completely underestimating what leverage and position sizing could do when the market suddenly moved against me.

Today, I can actually laugh about it.

At the time, I definitely could not.

That liquidation became one of the most useful moments of my early trading journey.

Instead of blaming the market, I started looking at my own process.

I began studying funding-rate history before entering positions instead of simply checking the current number. I started paying attention to order-book depth instead of relying entirely on candlestick patterns. I learned to calculate position size based on actual account equity rather than how strongly I believed in a trade.

Most importantly, I started putting risk controls in place before entering.

Stop-loss first.

Trade second.

That simple change made a huge difference.

Over time, Gate became more than just the place where I executed trades. It became the environment where I tested ideas, made mistakes, refined strategies and gradually became more disciplined.

I explored isolated and cross-margin modes, experimented with different order types, monitored funding, studied liquidity and watched how different trading pairs behaved under different market conditions.

Some trades were profitable.

Some trades were technically correct but still lost money.

Some trades were simply mistakes.

And a few became stories that are much funnier now than they were when they happened.

That is probably one of the most important things trading has taught me: being right about the market direction is not enough.

You can have the correct narrative and still lose.

You can identify the trend and enter too early.

You can read the chart correctly and use too much leverage.

You can even have a good setup and still get stopped out before the market moves exactly where you expected.

The difference between surviving those situations and being destroyed by them often comes down to risk management.

Throughout this journey, I have also watched Gate continue evolving. More trading opportunities, new pairs, improvements to the futures experience, additional tools and an increasingly complete trading ecosystem have kept the platform relevant to the way I trade today.

And that makes the 60 million-user milestone feel different to me.

It is not simply a statistic.

It represents millions of beginnings.

Millions of first deposits.

Millions of first trades.

Millions of first profits.

And, probably, millions of first liquidations too.

Somewhere in those 60 million stories, there are traders experiencing exactly what I experienced when I first started: the excitement of opening a position, the confidence of thinking the chart is obvious, and eventually the realization that the market does not care how confident we feel.

My journey started with a modest account, a BTCUSDT long and more confidence than experience.

Since then, I have learned, adapted, made mistakes, improved and continued trading.

Nearly two years later, I am still here.

Still studying charts.

Still refining entries.

Still respecting leverage.

Still learning from losses.

And yes, still occasionally making decisions that future-me will probably laugh about.

That is what makes the journey worth remembering.

60 million users may be the milestone, but every user has a story behind the number.

This is a small part of mine.

Here’s to 60 million users, countless first trades, unforgettable lessons, unexpected liquidations, and all the traders who are still learning one position at a time.
