Abu Dhabi’s G42 Considers Bringing in U.S. Capital to Secure Access to AI Chips

Abstract generation in progress
People familiar with the matter revealed that executives at Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence company G42 have held preliminary discussions about selling a majority stake to a U.S. company, in an effort to ensure continued access to advanced chips beyond next year. This means the company is set for a major restructuring. G42, overseen by an influential royal family member, was founded about eight years ago and embodies Abu Dhabi’s goal of making its first large-scale foray into the technology industry. G42 recently obtained approval to purchase cutting-edge AI chips without a U.S. export license, with the approval valid until around April 2027. However, to continue obtaining the chips, the company must restructure its corporate framework. People familiar with the matter said executives are considering various options to overcome this obstacle. According to people familiar with the matter, the proposals under discussion include bringing in a U.S. company as the majority shareholder or establishing an entirely new operating entity in the United States. No final decision has been reached. (Sina Finance)
