How Much Higher Can NVIDIA Go After Reaching a $5.4 Trillion Market Cap? The Market Is Not Really Worried About AI, but That “Expectations Are Too High”

NVIDIA’s market cap has climbed back above $5.4 trillion, unquestionably making it the focus of global capital markets once again.
But from an investor’s perspective, the most important thing to do now is not cheer, but calmly ask:
How much more growth does such a huge company need in the future to support its current valuation?
This is NVIDIA’s biggest challenge right now.
The company’s latest quarterly performance remains extremely strong, with revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year, while the market continues to have high expectations for AI servers, GPUs, and data center demand.
The problem is that the market already knows it is excellent.
So for NVIDIA to continue rising, it cannot merely deliver “good results”; it needs to keep producing earnings reports that exceed expectations.
This is the dilemma faced by companies with huge market caps.
When a $100 billion company grows 20%, the market may get excited; when a $5.4 trillion company grows 20%, the absolute scale of its profits and cash flow is already astonishingly large, making it naturally increasingly difficult to maintain rapid growth.
Not to mention that the AI industry is entering a phase of increasingly intense competition.
Although NVIDIA still has a powerful software ecosystem and GPU advantage, Google, Amazon, AMD, and major AI companies are all developing their own chips and computing platforms.
Therefore, the market’s future pricing of NVIDIA may gradually shift from “AI leader” to “AI infrastructure platform.”
This is also why NVIDIA’s acquisition of Hugging Face is worth watching.
If the deal is completed, NVIDIA will be able to further expand into the open-source model and developer ecosystems, rather than remaining merely a hardware supplier.
If successful, this step would amount to extending its moat from “chips” to the “ecosystem.”
But investors also need to stay clear-headed:
A good company and a good stock are not the same thing.
NVIDIA may be an exceptionally outstanding company, but when market expectations are already extremely high, its share price will become more sensitive to any slowdown in growth.
So after $5.4 trillion, I am more focused on three things:
Will AI capital expenditure continue to grow?
Can data center revenue maintain a high growth rate?
Can profit margins and cash flow continue to match the valuation?
Only if all three answers are impressive will NVIDIA have the confidence to keep rising.
Otherwise, the market may also come up with a very classic phrase:
It’s not that NVIDIA is incapable, but that everyone previously thought it was too capable. $NVDA #英伟达市值重返5.4万亿美元
