Nvidia returns to $5.4 trillion: The AI bull market is not over, but the era of “buying with your eyes closed” may be
Nvidia’s market cap has climbed back above $5.4 trillion, meaning capital markets have once again pushed the AI leader into the spotlight.
In the latest session, Nvidia rose more than 3%, becoming a major force behind the rebound in U.S. technology stocks.
The most noteworthy aspect of this rally is that the market has started trading on the core logic that “AI demand will continue to grow” once again.
Previously, the market had worried that AI capital expenditures might be overheating and whether tech giants’ investments could ultimately translate into revenue. But Nvidia’s latest earnings report once again delivered a strong answer: demand for AI infrastructure remains robust.
Quarterly revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year—such a growth rate is indeed astonishing for a company that has already reached a trillion-dollar market cap.
Therefore, Nvidia’s core advantage remains unchanged:
The more complex AI becomes, the more computing power it requires; the more widespread AI applications become, the greater the demand for computing infrastructure.
And Nvidia happens to occupy one of the most profitable positions in this industry chain.
But I believe the market will increasingly focus on another question going forward—can Nvidia evolve from an “AI chip hegemon” into an “AI ecosystem hegemon”?
The acquisition of Hugging Face is a very clear signal. Nvidia plans to acquire the open-source AI development platform for approximately $12.9 billion, clearly extending further into models, developers, and the software ecosystem.
If this move succeeds, Nvidia’s moat will no longer be limited to hardware performance, but will extend from hardware all the way to software and developers.
This is what I believe will be most worth watching after $5.4 trillion.
Of course, the risks cannot be ignored either.
U.S. Treasury yields, inflation, geopolitical conditions, and competition in the AI industry could all affect technology stock valuations.
So when I look at Nvidia now, I would summarize it in one sentence:
The fundamentals remain strong, but its valuation no longer allows it to make too many mistakes.
$5.4 trillion proves that Nvidia remains the core engine of the AI market rally.
But whether the rally can continue accelerating in the next phase will depend on whether this engine can continue delivering growth that exceeds expectations.
After all, at this scale, a one-percentage-point gain represents a market-cap story worth tens of billions of dollars.
