USDT Directly Settles U.S. Stock Options—This Move by Gate Is Very “Crypto”
With Gate’s launch of U.S. stock options this time, what I’m really paying attention to isn’t the 9 stocks, but the settlement method it chose.
The answer is: USDT cash settlement.
According to the rules published by Gate, the U.S. stock options traded by users will not involve direct delivery of stocks upon exercise. Instead, they will be settled through the cash difference, with positions ultimately settled in USDT.
This may look like a mere technical detail, but it actually has a strong “crypto market” feel.
Why?
Because for many Crypto users, USDT is already the most familiar asset for pricing and settlement.
In the past, switching from BTC to U.S. stocks might have meant dealing with dollars, brokerage accounts, and the traditional financial system all over again. Now, switching from crypto assets to U.S. stock options is at least more unified at the settlement level.
Gate also officially stated that this U.S. stock options trading will not incur platform option commissions, with users mainly responsible for fees related to regulators and clearing institutions.
Of course, convenience does not mean simplicity.
Options themselves are highly complex derivatives. Time value, implied volatility, and strike prices all affect profits and losses. Especially as expiration approaches, prices can move very quickly.$DELL
So what is truly worth watching about this product upgrade is not simply that “USDT can now be used to buy U.S. stock options.”
Rather, traditional financial instruments are entering digital-asset users’ trading scenarios in increasingly Crypto-like ways.
In the past, Crypto moved closer to traditional finance.
Now, it seems more like the two paths are gradually converging.
This may be the greater significance of Gate’s move into U.S. stock options.#Gate美股期权正式上线 #
