BTC/USDT: Geopolitics vs. Technical Levels
Yesterday's attempt to hold above $79,000 was interrupted by external factors. At the time of writing, BTC is trading around $77,403, down about 1.8% over 24 hours. The reason: the resumption of US strikes against targets in Iran, which traditionally triggers a flight from risk in the crypto segment.
Technical Picture
On the 4-hour timeframe, the price bounced off the lower boundary of the local range ($76,420). Indicators are mixed:
– EMA5 (77,967) and EMA10 (77,145) formed a “cross” slightly above the current price, indicating short-term selling pressure.
– At the same time, EMA30 (72,277) remains significantly lower, so the medium-term trend has not yet been broken.
– Bollinger Bands (20,2) are widening: the middle line is at $73,190, while the upper line is at $86,524. The current price is in the lower half of the channel but is not touching the support line.
Volumes are modest at 6.88K BTC over 24 hours. This suggests that the move is driven less by internal selling than by hedge funds' reaction to the news.
Macro Factor
The key factor here is the price of oil. Brent jumped to $94.5, and if it breaks above $100, this will directly affect expectations for the Fed's interest rate. Higher inflation = later rate cuts = less attractive conditions for risky assets. For now, the rise in oil prices is geopolitical in nature, but a shift into the “inflationary” zone could change the balance of power.
What’s next?
The $76,400 level is currently acting as the nearest support. A break below it opens the way to $73,000, the middle Bollinger Band and EMA30. However, it is important to remember that similar escalations in February–March led to pullbacks, after which BTC recovered thanks to inflows through spot ETFs.
Speculators will trade the headlines, while institutional players will watch oil and the dollar index. As long as $77,000 holds, it is too early to talk about a trend reversal.
Key risk: If Iran responds symmetrically and oil rises above $96, we could see a retest of $74,000 by the end of the week.
