As the U.S. military opens fire, BTC first “bows its head”: Geopolitical risks are testing the crypto market’s nerve again

The market was just discussing whether BTC could continue moving higher when the U.S.-Iran situation suddenly heated up, instantly giving everyone a “public lesson in risk management.”
On August 31, the U.S. military took military action against Iranian targets, after which Iran retaliated. Oil prices rose significantly, global risk assets came under pressure, and BTC at one point fell back to around $77k.
Why did BTC fall?
It’s simple.
When a war escalates, the first reaction from capital is usually not “where’s the most excitement?” but “where can I stay safe first?”
Risk assets such as stocks and crypto naturally face selling pressure. In particular, after its earlier rise, BTC had already accumulated some profit-taking pressure. When the geopolitical conflict arrived, some funds simply pocketed their profits first.
But I think there is one detail worth noting this time:
BTC fell, but did not completely collapse.
CoinDesk pointed out that against the backdrop of the latest escalation in the U.S.-Iran conflict, rising oil prices, and weakening stock markets, BTC still remained broadly around $78k.
This shows that although the market is fearful, it has not yet fully entered a mode of “panic-selling BTC whenever war breaks out.”
So my view is:
Don’t rush to fall in love with the candlestick chart in the short term.
Next, focus on three things: oil prices, the dollar, and BTC trading volume.
If the conflict continues to escalate, oil prices keep surging, and inflation expectations rise again, risk assets may remain under pressure.
But if the situation gradually cools, BTC could instead see a sentiment recovery.
War makes the market nervous, but it also creates volatility.
Smart traders do not predict where the shells will fly; they think ahead about where to place their positions.
