BTC dropping isn’t scary; what’s truly painful is cutting your losses, only for it to suddenly “change its mind”
U.S.-Iran tensions have heated up again, and the market is once again playing out a familiar scene:
Oil prices rise, stocks fall, BTC pulls back, and social media is instantly flooded with:
“It’s over!”
“Is the bull market finished?”
“Is it going to zero?”
Stay calm.
After the U.S. military took action against targets in Iran this time, Brent crude briefly broke above $90, while BTC temporarily fell to around $77k.
What’s interesting, however, is that BTC did not suffer such severe losses as during certain previous conflict periods. Instead, it showed some resilience around $78k.
So I believe the most important thing to avoid right now is falling into either of two extremes.
First: going fully short just because there is a war.
Second: assuming that a BTC pullback means “this is the last chance to get on board.”
Both ways of thinking are simply too simplistic.
What is truly worth doing is watching for evidence that the market is continuing to deteriorate.
If the conflict expands further, oil prices continue to rise, the dollar strengthens, and risk assets remain under pressure, then BTC will naturally continue to face short-term pressure.
Conversely, if the situation gradually stabilizes, oil prices fall back, and risk appetite returns, the market could recover from the earlier panic-driven sell-off.
So right now, I prefer to view BTC as an “emotional thermometer.”
When the market panics, it catches a cold first;
when the market recovers, it starts bouncing around again.
As for trading, I actually think that at times like this, we should reduce emotional trading even more.
Don’t change your entire investment thesis because of a single news report, and don’t overturn your entire long-term plan because of one decline.
Position management will always be more important than predicting the outcome of a war.
After all, we can’t control where the missiles fly, but at least we can control our positions so they don’t fly away.
What do you think of this move?
Do you see the pullback as a risk, or as the next opportunity?
