🚨 $74M DeFi exploit hits Cronos — and the entire chain was forced to stop.

This is one of those incidents that shows just how quickly things can go wrong in DeFi.

TectonicFi, the largest lending protocol on Cronos, was exploited for an estimated $74–75 million after an attacker manipulated the price of its thinly traded TONIC token and used the inflated value as collateral to borrow other assets.

Then came the emergency brake. 🛑

Cronos paused the entire blockchain to contain the attack.

Before the shutdown, the attacker managed to bridge roughly $6M to Ethereum, while around $60M remained stuck on Cronos.

The scary part is how the exploit reportedly worked:

👉 Pump the price of a low-liquidity token
👉 Use the artificially inflated token as collateral
👉 Borrow valuable assets against it
👉 Move the funds before the network can react

Tectonic had around $121.7M in TVL shortly before the attack, but that figure collapsed dramatically after the exploit.

There’s also an important lesson here:

A token having a high market price doesn't necessarily mean that price can support large-scale borrowing.

Thin liquidity + weak oracle/collateral controls can become a dangerous combination in DeFi.

Now everyone is watching what happens next: how Cronos restarts, what happens to the frozen funds, and whether Tectonic can recover.

DeFi innovation is powerful, but security is still the biggest battle. 🔐
