#SPCX OpenAI Plans to Stop Providing AI Model Services to SpaceX-Owned AI Coding Platform, Musk: “I Don’t Care at All”
OpenAI plans to stop providing AI model services to an AI coding platform owned by SpaceX, with Musk responding.
According to Reuters and other media outlets, OpenAI announced on August 28 local time that it plans to stop providing AI model services to an AI coding platform owned by Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX). SpaceX CEO Musk responded on the 29th, saying, “I don’t care at all.”
OpenAI said in a post on the 28th local time that it had notified SpaceX that day of its plan to terminate the contract to provide AI model services to the company’s AI coding platform—the “Cursor” code editor—with the proposed termination date set for November 12, 2026. “This is a very difficult decision.”
OpenAI said, “We made this decision based on our past experience with companies under Elon Musk violating contracts, and we cannot be certain that SpaceX will use our technology within the framework of the terms of service.” A social media user subsequently shared OpenAI’s announcement in a post, and Musk commented in the post’s comments section on the 29th, saying, “I don’t care at all.” He also accused OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman of being “untrustworthy” and of “stealing an open-source nonprofit.”
Reuters said this means the “rivalry” between Altman and Musk has escalated further.
Musk helped found OpenAI, left in 2018 due to differences in philosophy, and founded the artificial intelligence company xAI in 2023. According to CNBC and other media outlets, Musk and other investors proposed in February 2025 to acquire OpenAI’s nonprofit parent company for $97.4 billion. Altman, who has publicly been at odds with Musk, subsequently rejected the proposal.$SPCX
