How to Avoid Tilting and Rushing In? — “Mindset Control Methods” for Trading Event Contracts
Traders who have been trading event contracts for a while will find that 90% of their losses are not because they misread the market, but because they lost control of their mindset. They may have analyzed the trade properly before opening it, but panic and make random moves after seeing a little adverse movement. After getting two trades wrong in a row, they tilt and go all in, hoping to recover their losses quickly, ultimately turning a small loss into a major reduction in their principal. The short cycles and rapid settlement of event contracts amplify human emotional weaknesses several times over. If you want to achieve stable returns from this product over the long term, mastering your mindset first is more useful than learning more technical indicators.
The first mindset boundary you must hold is never treating event contracts as a “recovery machine.” Many beginners, after correctly guessing two trades and making quick money, believe they have found a shortcut to getting rich. They move all the long-term funds originally intended for spot purchases into event contracts, and may even borrow money and use leverage to rush in. But short-term movements in event contracts are full of random fluctuations. No matter how high your win rate is, you can never achieve a 100% hit rate. Once you encounter several consecutive waves of adverse market movements, the result of taking a large position is losing your entire principal. Be clear from the outset: event contracts are merely an auxiliary tool in your crypto trading system. Only use spare money that you can fully afford to lose, and never treat them as a get-rich-quick path to changing your social status.
The second typical bad mindset you must eliminate is the gambler’s mentality of “immediately doubling your position after a loss to make your money back.” After losing one trade, many people’s first reaction is to double their position on the next trade, thinking that one win will recover all their previous losses. After getting two or three trades wrong in a row, they may even throw all their remaining principal into one final bet. Short-term movements in the crypto market often produce extreme, consecutive one-way trends. BTC having five consecutive large candles in the same direction is common. If you get five trades wrong in the opposite direction in a row, even if your initial position was only 5%, your total investment will ultimately account for 80% of your principal, and one mistake could wipe it out completely. Remember this iron rule: no matter how much you lost on the previous trade, the position size on the next trade must always remain the same as before. Never arbitrarily increase your position to recover your losses quickly.
The third mindset skill you must deliberately practice is accepting “reasonable losses with a low probability.” Even if you trade in line with the broader trend and choose a high-win-rate entry point, you will still encounter low-probability losses caused by sudden news-driven wicks or liquidity abnormalities. This is completely normal in short-cycle trading. When many people encounter a trade where they “analyzed correctly but still lost,” they become mentally unbalanced and start doubting their trading system. They then open a large number of random trades to try to recover the loss from that trade, only to suffer several consecutive losses instead. Accept from the beginning that getting 3 out of 10 trades wrong is a very healthy win rate. As long as the account remains profitable overall, individual low-probability losses are entirely acceptable.
