Bitcoin has achieved a significant experiment in addressing the threat of quantum computing. Blockchain infrastructure company StarkWare claims to have successfully executed the first Bitcoin transaction designed to withstand quantum computing attacks on the mainnet.

Strikingly, the transaction was executed without changing Bitcoin's consensus rules or performing any network upgrades.

In an announcement on Wednesday (August 26, 2026), StarkWare stated that the transaction utilized a method called Quantum-Safe Bitcoin (QSB), a mechanism designed to add a hash function-based security layer to user-held BTC.
