Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest is one of the most interesting Premier League fixtures of this weekend, and if I have to choose one winner, my pick is Liverpool.
The match takes place at Anfield on August 29 at 19:30 UTC+8, and for Liverpool this is much more than another league fixture. It is the first Premier League home game of the new era under Andoni Iraola, so the pressure, expectations and motivation will all be extremely high.

However, I would not be surprised if Liverpool score three goals if they find an early breakthrough.

Liverpool generated 27 shots in that match and eventually rescued a point through Dominik Szoboszlai's late penalty. Cody Gakpo also had a very active attacking performance and scored.
The biggest difference in this match should be Anfield.
Liverpool are now playing in front of their home supporters, and Iraola will want his team to establish control from the first minute. His message to Liverpool's forwards has been about maintaining extremely high intensity, even if that means making substitutions later in the match. That tells me Liverpool are likely to attack with energy rather than sitting back and waiting for Forest.
But there is an important warning.
Nottingham Forest have already beaten Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield last season, so history tells us that Forest are capable of creating a major surprise in this fixture. Forest also have dangerous players who can exploit space behind Liverpool's defensive line. Their approach under Oliver Glasner can become particularly dangerous when they win the ball and transition quickly.
Therefore, I don't see this as a guaranteed Liverpool victory.
I see it as a match where Liverpool should dominate possession and chances, while Forest's best opportunity will come through counter-attacks.
Liverpool's attacking options are also affected by injuries. Hugo Ekitike remains unavailable, while Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez are also out according to the latest team-news reports. That reduces Liverpool's depth and puts additional responsibility on players such as Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Alexander Isak is particularly important.
He recorded four shots and two on target against Newcastle, so there were positive signs despite concerns about his fitness and sharpness. With Ekitike unavailable, Isak is likely to carry significant responsibility for Liverpool's central attacking threat.
Cody Gakpo is another player I am watching closely.

Florian Wirtz should also have a major influence.

The midfield battle is therefore extremely important.

Forest's plan should be completely different.
I expect them to remain compact and try to frustrate Liverpool. They will not want an open game at Anfield because that would give Liverpool too many opportunities. Their best route to a result is to defend patiently, win possession and immediately attack the space behind Liverpool's full-backs.
Morgan Gibbs-White could be particularly important for Forest. His availability is a major factor, and the latest reports indicate that he is expected to return after missing the midweek cup match.
Forest also have Liam Delap as a potential attacking option after his move from Chelsea, giving them another physical presence in the final third.
So what happens if Liverpool score first?
I believe the match could open up very quickly.
If Liverpool score during the first 30 minutes, Forest will have to abandon some of their defensive caution. That would create more space, and Liverpool's attacking quality could take advantage.
This is the scenario where my alternative prediction of 3-1 becomes realistic.
But what if Forest score first?

One current prediction model also puts Liverpool around 63% to win, compared with 21% for a draw and 16% for Forest.
For me, the safest selection is therefore Liverpool to win.
But I prefer Liverpool win over an extremely aggressive score prediction because Forest have already shown that they can cause problems at Anfield.

Alternative:
Liverpool 3-1 Nottingham Forest
A 2-0 Liverpool result is also possible if Forest struggle to create enough attacking opportunities.
The first 15 minutes will be extremely important.
If Liverpool immediately press high, dominate possession and start producing shots, Forest could find themselves defending very deep. But if Forest survive the opening period and keep the score 0-0, their confidence will grow.
The second half could then become the decisive period.
Liverpool have the attacking depth to increase the pressure through substitutions, while Forest will have to maintain their defensive concentration for the full 90 minutes.
My key players to watch are Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai for Liverpool, while Morgan Gibbs-White is the player I would watch most closely for Forest.

One thing I would NOT do is assume Liverpool will automatically win by three or four goals.
Their injury situation and Forest's counter-attacking ability make a narrow victory more realistic.
My final call is Liverpool 2-1 Nottingham Forest.
If Liverpool score early, I would upgrade the possibility of a 3-1 result.
If Forest keep Liverpool goalless for the first half, however, this could become a very tense match.
For me, Liverpool remain the deserved favorite — but Forest are dangerous enough to make this a genuine test.
