NVIDIA's Q2 Earnings: A Huge $96 Billion Jump and Its Market Implications

NVIDIA reported revenue of $96.2 billion in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, significantly exceeding market expectations. Earnings per share reached $2.22, with the data center segment alone generating $89 billion in revenue.

Quarterly Figures and Expectations

According to the results, NVIDIA easily surpassed analysts' expectations of $91.85 billion in revenue and $2.09 in earnings per share. Adjusted EPS reached $2.22, while GAAP net profit reached $59.7 billion. Revenue increased by 106% year-over-year, and net profit increased by 126%. The gross profit margin remained stable at 75%, a 2.6 percentage point improvement from 72.4% in the same period last year.

The data center segment grew 117% year-over-year with $89 billion in revenue. This segment now accounts for almost all of the company's total revenue. NVIDIA's third-quarter revenue guidance is set at $108 billion. This figure meets market expectations of over $100 billion and demonstrates continued demand for the company's AI infrastructure.

Return to Shareholders

The board initiated a new $80 billion share buyback program. This program, equivalent to approximately 1.5% of existing shares, demonstrates the company's confidence in its equity. NVIDIA, with a market capitalization of approximately $5.5 trillion, is still trading below the average analyst target price of $308.

Market Reaction

Following the earnings report, the share price rose more than 8% to $228. However, this increase was met with caution due to the company's massive growth rates in previous quarters. Investors are now questioning whether NVIDIA can sustain this growth. Another noteworthy point is that the company is providing guidance without assuming any data center computing revenue from China. This suggests that the current strong performance could be further boosted by a potential expansion into China.
