#五大联赛赛前预测官 Ligue 1 Preview | Depleted Paris Faces a Tough Home Opponent—Lille vs. Paris Saint-Germain

At 2:45 a.m. Beijing time on August 29, the second round of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season will feature a highly anticipated showdown.
Lille will host defending champions Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
One side is a tough home opponent riding high after a two-goal away win in the opening round; the other is a depleted powerhouse that narrowly drew its opener and will be without several key players. This seemingly lopsided contest has far more suspense than the difference on paper suggests.

Pre-Match Background: A Start of Two Extremes
Lille produced an impressive performance in the opening round under new manager Davide Ancelotti, the son of renowned coach Ancelotti. Away against Angers, 39-year-old veteran Giroud and right-back Tiago Santos both scored, helping the team comfortably secure a 2-0 opening victory. Lille currently sit third in the table.
Paris Saint-Germain, by contrast, fell 2-0 behind away to Rennes in the opening round and only managed to salvage a draw thanks to substitute Ferran Torres scoring twice. The defending champions are still waiting for their first win of the season and sit just eighth in the table. Even more concerning is the team’s poor trend in the French Super Cup— they have trailed at halftime in two consecutive competitive matches.

Paris Saint-Germain: Half the Attack Gone, Depleted Squad Raises Concerns
Paris face a severe personnel crisis in this match. In attack, Ousmane Dembélé has been granted time off and will miss the game. According to PSG, Dembélé will resume full-team training next Monday after a brief rest. Barcola and Mbaye were left out of the squad due to transfer issues. In defense, Nuno Mendes is serving the final match of his three-game suspension and will be unavailable.
The good news is that Paris still have considerable depth. Ferran Torres, who came on as a substitute in the opener and scored twice in 45 minutes, is expected to replace Dembélé in the starting lineup. Kvaratskhelia and Doué will join Ferran Torres in a new attacking trident. In midfield, Fabián Ruiz provided a key assist in the opening round and is in excellent form.
Paris are expected to line up in a 4-3-3: goalkeeper Safonov; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, and Lucas Hernández in defense; Vitinha, João Neves, and Fabián Ruiz in midfield; Kvaratskhelia, Ferran Torres, and Doué in attack.

Lille: Captain Returns as Attack and Defense Get a Boost, Home Form a Major Asset
Lille’s personnel situation is much more encouraging. The biggest boost is the return of captain Benjamin André after suspension. His comeback will directly improve the team’s midfield strength and defensive coverage. Mohamed Bayo has also returned to first-team training. Lille have suffered some losses as well. Belgian forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, who wants to leave in search of a transfer, has been left out of the squad and will miss the match. Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane is still recovering from injury. Nevertheless, Lille’s midfield structure remains intact, and their defensive-counterattacking system has not fallen apart.
Lille are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1: goalkeeper Berke Özer; Tiago Santos, Nathan Ngoy, Alexsandro Ribeiro, and Romain Perraud in defense; Benjamin André and Nabil Bentaleb as the holding midfielders; Ethan Mbappé, Håkon Haraldsson, and Félix Correia as the attacking midfielders; Giroud up front.

Main Talking Point: Can Depleted Paris Overcome This Tough Home Opponent?
Talking Point One: Paris’ away curse. Paris have gone unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with Lille, recording eight wins and two draws, but in 39 away Ligue 1 matches against Lille throughout history, they have won only eight. Lille’s last three home meetings with Paris have produced two draws and one defeat, with both draws ending 1-1. In October 2025, Lille held Paris to a 1-1 draw at home. If things were already this difficult with a full-strength squad, the challenge is even greater now that Paris are depleted.
Talking Point Two: An ultimate clash of tactical styles. Lille are highly likely to adopt a strategy of high pressing and quick counterattacks—using intense pressure up front to cut off Paris’ holding midfielders, forcing the defenders to clear long, then having Giroud compete for the first ball while Haraldsson and Correia fight for the second. This “chaotic battle” approach is particularly effective against possession-oriented teams. Paris, despite their depleted squad, will continue to dominate possession and attack in waves, but without Dembélé’s pace on the wing, their attacking patterns will need to be reorganized.
Talking Point Three: Giroud against his former club—emotion and killer instinct. The 39-year-old Giroud was still able to score in the opening round, and his ability to win aerial duels and link up play in the box remains world-class. Against Paris, where he once played, every touch from the veteran could change the course of the match.

Overall, Paris still hold the advantage on paper, but with Dembélé resting, Mendes suspended, and Barcola and Mbaye unavailable—half the attack gone— their depleted squad and the lack of cohesion exposed in the opening round make it extremely difficult to comfortably take all three points away from home. Lille have home advantage, their captain is back, and their morale is high, giving them every chance of causing problems for the defending champions.
Under the night sky at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, the depleted defending champions are likely to narrowly take all three points through the individual quality of players such as Ferran Torres, but Lille are also quite capable of snatching a goal at home. As the pre-match analysis put it—“This game is highly likely to follow the classic script of Paris dominating possession and attacking, while Lille sit deep and counterattack.”
