#SK海力士涨超5% Nvidia’s blowout earnings ignite the semiconductor sector! South Korean and Japanese stocks open higher, SK hynix surges 5%

On August 27, South Korea’s KOSPI index opened up 2.8% at 6996.12 points; the Nikkei 225 opened 0.78% higher at 66775.78 points. Among them, SK hynix rose 5% and Samsung Electronics rose 3%.

On the news front, Nvidia (NVDAUS) released its fiscal second-quarter (May-July) earnings report, with revenue of $96.22 billion (approximately 133.2 trillion Korean won), up 106% year on year and exceeding market expectations, marking the 13th consecutive quarter of record-high revenue. Earnings per share came in at $2.22, with a gross margin of 75% and an operating margin of 66.5%. After the earnings release, its after-hours share price surged 4.4%. CEO Jensen Huang said: “AI has reached a tipping point. Tokens have productivity and revenue-generating attributes, and computing power itself is being converted into revenue.”

Meanwhile, Kioxia Holdings will invest more than 1 trillion yen to build a new manufacturing plant in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, for mass production of NAND flash memory. Kioxia is expected to announce the construction plan on August 27.

South Korean brokerages said Nvidia’s 70% revenue growth expectation is based on supply constraints rather than actual demand, while Amazon’s (AMZNUS) AWS plans to additionally purchase 2 million Nvidia GPUs equipped with next-generation Vera CPUs through fiscal 2029, driving the after-hours gain.
Kim Ji-young of Kiwoom Securities believes that although the third-quarter gross margin guidance of 74.0% is below the expected 75.0%, the 70% revenue growth rate is the key factor, boosting certainty around demand for memory chips such as HBM high-bandwidth memory. Investment sentiment toward the semiconductor sector’s core themes is expected to recover.$SK Hynix
