Morgan Stanley: Latest PCE Report Fails to Reduce Expectations for Fed Rate Hikes

Mars Finance reports that the core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index rose 0.2% month over month and 3.3% year over year in July, with both figures in line with expectations. Ellen Zentner, chief economic strategist at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, said: “Today’s inflation data showed a modest upside surprise, and the relatively strong economic performance are not what investors or the Federal Reserve want to see. However, these data are still insufficient to change the balance of decision-making at the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting.”
