BTC Returns to $79,000: Don’t Panic—the Bull Market’s Car Just Tapped the Brakes?

BTC just surged above $81k, only to quickly return to around $79,000. The speed really did feel like “riding a roller coaster without buying a ticket.” On August 25, BTC briefly touched approximately $81,200 before rapidly falling back to around $79,000, showing that selling pressure above $80k is indeed substantial.
But I believe the pullback to $79,000 cannot yet be simply interpreted as the end of the market rally.
The reason is simple: the previous rise was too fast. BTC had gained more than 20% in the preceding week, breaking through $70k, $75k, and $80k in quick succession. Short-seller liquidations, renewed ETF inflows, and expectations of improved macro liquidity jointly accelerated the rally. Last week, U.S. spot BTC ETFs saw approximately $1.92 billion in net inflows, marking an exceptionally strong week so far this year.
So profit-taking now is actually not surprising.
What really needs to be watched is whether there is support around $79,000.
If BTC consolidates in the $78k–$80k range and then reclaims $80k, this pullback will look more like a normal rotation after a rise. The former resistance level would gradually become support, which could instead help the market continue gaining momentum.
But if BTC falls through $78k and continues searching for support around $76k or even lower, then the validity of this breakout will need to be reassessed. Some analysts currently also believe that $76k–$78k is an important pullback zone to watch.
So my view is: the trend has not broken down for now, but short-term traders should not get too reckless.
After ignoring a 30% rise without blinking, shouting “the bull market is over” after a minor drop is somewhat emotional.
BTC now looks more like it has just finished a 100-meter sprint and is catching its breath.
The real question is not whether BTC will fall below $79,000, but whether buyers will be willing to return after the pullback.
If funds continue flowing in and $80k is firmly reclaimed, this pullback may instead be “clearing roadblocks” for the next round of gains.
So don’t rush to mistake braking for reversing.
The healthiest posture for a bull market has never been rising every day, but rising with buyers ready to step in and still being able to stand back up after a drop.
