It’s interesting to put this news alongside BTC breaking above 81k. On one side, traditional finance is trying to transform itself with blockchain, while crypto assets continue to rise on the other. The two paths may appear parallel, but could ultimately lead to the same destination.

Reported by Nikkei, so take it with a grain of salt.

If Japan can truly achieve instant settlement, cross-border transactions, repo markets, and even central bank policy transmission will become faster. Of course, that depends on reliable technology and adequate regulation; otherwise, it will just be another empty promise. But at least that’s better than certain countries that only know how to chant slogans.

To be honest, was your first reaction to this news that it was bullish for BTC? It actually benefits credible public chains more. Traditional institutions won’t use BTC for settlement, but they will bring a steady stream of real users and capital. That’s the foundation of the next bull market. Japan is playing the long game here.

One question: Blockchain settlement inevitably involves transparency issues—can institutions accept that? Or will they use permissioned chains, in which case they would be quite different from the blockchain understood by the public?
