Goldman Sachs Bullish on CXMT
Goldman Sachs’ positive outlook on China’s semiconductor and artificial-intelligence ecosystem is drawing attention to ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), one of the country’s leading memory-chip manufacturers. Goldman Sachs has highlighted a potentially durable semiconductor memory cycle, while its broader China strategy has become more constructive toward AI-related companies and infrastructure.
CXMT is increasingly important because it is expanding domestic DRAM production while developing more advanced memory technologies. Counterpoint Research estimates that CXMT held roughly 9% of global DRAM bit shipments in 2025 and expects its share to rise toward 11% by 2028. The company also raised about RMB57.9 billion, or roughly $8.5 billion, through its Shanghai IPO to support capacity expansion, next-generation memory research and HBM development.
Investor enthusiasm became clear when CXMT shares surged about 466% during their Shanghai debut, reflecting strong expectations for AI-driven memory demand and China’s push for semiconductor self-sufficiency.
However, risks remain. CXMT faces U.S. technology restrictions, intense competition from Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron, and the cyclical nature of memory pricing. Its rapid valuation increase also raises concerns about expectations. Nevertheless, stronger AI demand, expanding capacity and technological progress could keep CXMT strategically important for China’s semiconductor industry.
