#GoldmanSachsBullishOnCXMT
$CXMT is becoming one of the most interesting names in China’s semiconductor expansion, and Goldman Sachs has added fuel to the story with a Buy rating and CNY 129 price target.
But the real story isn't the target price.
It is the combination of DRAM capacity expansion + domestic substitution + AI memory demand + HBM ambitions.
📈 Capacity is the big catalyst
Goldman expects CXMT’s monthly wafer capacity to increase from roughly:
270K in 2026 → 447K in 2028 → 665K by 2030
That would represent more than a 2x increase over four years.
If execution, yields and customer validation progress as expected, the expanded capacity could eventually allow CXMT to supply a significant portion of China’s domestic DRAM demand.
And the timing is interesting.
AI infrastructure continues to drive demand for memory, while the broader DRAM market remains tight. CXMT has also been one of the fastest-growing DRAM suppliers, showing how quickly the company is scaling.
🤖 HBM could change the game
This is the part I’m watching most closely.
Goldman expects HBM-related revenue to become a much larger part of CXMT’s business by 2030.
Why does that matter?
AI accelerators require high-bandwidth memory, and HBM carries significantly higher value than traditional DRAM.
If CXMT can successfully improve HBM technology, yields and customer qualification, the company could move further up the semiconductor value chain.
But this is still an execution story, not a guaranteed outcome.
⚠️ Valuation is the risk
This is where I become more cautious.
Memory is cyclical.
If manufacturers expand capacity faster than AI and server demand grows, DRAM prices can fall quickly and margins can compress.
CXMT also faces major competition from Samsung, SK hynix and Micron, which remain the dominant global DRAM players.
So the market needs to see more than rising production.
I want to see:
✅ Higher revenue
✅ Improving margins
✅ Strong DRAM pricing
✅ Better yields
✅ HBM qualification
✅ Growing customer adoption
✅ Strong cash-flow generation
🎯 My technical view
The CNY 60–62 area is an important checkpoint for me.
🟢 Bullish: Sustained strength above recent highs with strong turnover could signal that buyers remain confident despite the elevated valuation.
🟡 Neutral: Consolidation around the recent range could allow fundamentals to catch up with the stock price.
🔴 Bearish: A rejection near the highs followed by a breakdown of the recent consolidation structure would suggest momentum is cooling.
My verdict
I’m bullish on CXMT’s business trajectory but more cautious about the current valuation.
The long-term thesis is powerful:
AI demand → more memory → HBM opportunity → DRAM expansion → Chinese semiconductor substitution
But Goldman’s CNY 129 target is a scenario, not a guarantee.
The next phase will be decided by actual production, pricing, HBM progress, margins and cash flow.
If CXMT delivers on those fundamentals, it could become a much more serious global memory competitor.
If expectations run ahead of execution, valuation could become the market’s biggest concern.
For me, the best signal isn't simply whether $CXMT goes higher.
It is whether earnings growth can keep up with the stock price. 👀
