Bitcoin options market heats up as BTC nears $80K

Bitcoin touched an intraday high of $79,989 on Monday, with derivatives markets responding sharply as traders piled into futures and options positions.

Futures open interest the total value of unsettled contracts accelerated alongside the price move, reflecting growing leverage in the market. Call options targeting six-figure price levels drew significant capital, with traders paying elevated premiums to position for further upside.

The surge in derivatives activity signals heightened speculative interest at current levels, though open interest spikes have historically accompanied both breakouts and sharp reversals in crypto markets.

Institutions are spending real money on six-figure calls—looks like everyone’s target starts at $100k. Do retail traders still dare to short?

It surged to 79,989 but still didn’t break $80k—just $11 short. Is the market holding back some big move? The futures funding rate must already be absurdly high, right?

Honestly, I get pretty nervous whenever OI surges. Last time, it spiked and then got hammered hard. Hopefully it can hold this time.

Already at 80K, and with the options market this hot, it feels like another big move is coming.

This leverage stacking feels a bit excessive. History tells me that the more bullish everyone is, the more wary we should be of price wicks.

$80 trillion locked in derivatives? No—it’s the total value of open contracts surging. Volatility is bound to explode at times like this, and options sellers are probably crying.
