📊 Two events could decide the mood of U.S. tech this week

NVIDIA earnings + the Federal Reserve.

This isn't just another earnings week.

On Wednesday, NVIDIA reports results.

Then attention shifts toward Jackson Hole, where investors will be looking for clues about the Fed's next policy direction.

And that's where things get interesting.

NVIDIA represents the AI growth story.

The Fed represents the cost of capital.

One tells us whether companies are still spending aggressively on AI.

The other tells us how expensive that growth is becoming.

If NVIDIA delivers strong results and maintains confidence in AI demand, tech sentiment could get another boost.

But if inflation and rates keep investors worried, even strong earnings may struggle to translate into sustained upside.

That's the part I'm watching.

Because a great company can report great numbers...

...and the stock can still fall if expectations were even greater.

So this week, I'm watching two questions:
1️⃣ Can NVIDIA justify the enormous expectations surrounding AI?
2️⃣ Can the Fed give markets enough confidence to keep taking risk?

If both answers are positive, tech could have another strong catalyst.
If one breaks the other, volatility could arrive quickly.

Which one do you think matters more this week: $NVDA earnings or the Fed?

Honestly, markets driven by two variables like this are the hardest to trade. Bet on earnings or rate cuts? I’m keeping both positions small and watching from the sidelines, then I’ll get in once the direction becomes clear.

Even NVIDIA’s strength can’t overcome a valuation that has already priced in the next three years; what really matters is the federal funds rate path. As long as rate-cut expectations are dashed, even strong earnings won’t help.

The real focus this week isn’t the earnings themselves, but whether the market is still willing to pay a premium for the AI story. Even if Nvidia beats expectations, it could still gap up and then fall as long as its guidance isn’t explosive enough.

I think the Federal Reserve is more important, after all, interest rates are the denominator and AI is the numerator. Once the denominator loosens, all growth stocks can catch their breath.

Many people are actually waiting for one signal: has AI capital expenditure peaked, or are interest rates finally about to turn? Both matter, but the timing differs: Nvidia will provide the answer first, and Powell will signal his stance later.
