BTC IS NEAR $78K — AND GATE IS SHOWING STRONG MARKET ACTIVITY
Bitcoin has completely changed the tone of the market in just a short period.
BTC is currently trading around the $78K area, after reaching an intraday high close to $79.2K. That means the market has moved well beyond the $75K breakout zone, and attention is now shifting toward whether Bitcoin can challenge and hold the $79K–$80K region.
At the same time, trading activity across major crypto markets has expanded significantly. CoinGlass currently shows around $12.1 billion in BTC spot volume and more than $150 billion in BTC futures volume over the past 24 hours. That is a clear indication that this is not a quiet market; liquidity and leverage are moving aggressively as traders react to the breakout.
This makes the latest Gate volume ranking particularly interesting.
According to the CoinGlass snapshot referenced in the original Gate update, Gate’s BTC spot volume reached approximately $1.38 billion, placing it among the leading global venues. Gate is also currently listed by CoinMarketCap as #2 globally by 24-hour spot trading volume, showing the scale of activity taking place across its markets.
But the number that interests me most right now isn't simply the exchange ranking.
It is the relationship between price and volume.
Bitcoin breaking $75K was one thing.
Bitcoin pushing toward $79K while overall BTC spot and derivatives activity remains extremely high is a much more important development. Strong participation can help confirm that a breakout has broader market involvement rather than being just a thin move through resistance.
Still, this is exactly where traders need to stay disciplined.
BTC is now approaching the $79K–$80K psychological resistance zone. After such a fast expansion, volatility can increase dramatically. A clean move above $80K with sustained spot demand would strengthen the continuation narrative, while a rejection around $79K–$80K could lead to a period of consolidation or a pullback toward previous breakout levels.
The market therefore has two stories developing at the same time.
The bullish story is simple: BTC has broken above $75K, momentum remains strong, trading activity is elevated, and the next major psychological level is $80K.
The cautious story is equally important: after a rapid rally, leverage can become crowded, and a large amount of futures activity means short-term price swings can become much sharper.
That is why I would rather watch spot volume, futures open interest, funding and liquidation data together instead of judging the market from price alone.
The latest CoinGlass data shows Bitcoin open interest around $57.4 billion, while roughly $854 million of BTC futures positions were liquidated over the previous 24 hours. Those numbers show just how much leverage is currently involved in the market.
For me, the roadmap is straightforward.
$75K was the major breakout level.
$77K–$78K is now an important momentum area.
$79K–$80K is the next major resistance battle.
A sustained break above $80K would make the next upside expansion much more interesting.
But if BTC gets rejected heavily around $79K–$80K, I would rather see where buyers defend the pullback than chase the first red candle.
The bigger picture is that Bitcoin has moved from a recovery trade into a market where liquidity, volume and positioning are becoming increasingly important.
And Gate's strong position in global trading activity makes the timing even more interesting.
So now I want to hear from the traders:
BTC is around $78K and knocking on the door of $80K — what did you trade during this breakout?
BTC?
ETH?
Or did you stay on the sidelines and wait for confirmation?
