Bitcoin may offer an escape from the dollar's reserve currency trap: Forbes Bitcoin has been presented as a possible neutral reserve asset after an old video of U.S. Vice President JD Vance resurfaced in which he questioned whether the dollar's reserve currency status ultimately benefits the United States.

JD Vance questioned whether dollar reserve status benefits the US economy despite lowering borrowing and import costs.
The debate centres on the Triffin dilemma, which describes the conflict created when a national currency also serves as a global reserve.
Stablecoins can increase global demand for dollars and US Treasuries without removing the underlying monetary conflict.

From the perspective of the Triffin dilemma, using any country’s fiat currency as the global reserve currency creates distortions. Bitcoin, which is not backed by sovereign credit, has instead become a neutral anchor. But a neutral asset needs price stability, and with BTC and ETH still experiencing extreme volatility, they remain far from becoming reserve currencies. Some stablecoins, however, are eating into the traditional settlement market while also extending the life of U.S. Treasuries.

BTC breaks above 71,000, and ETH surges as well. This market move is being reinforced by the news flow. However, it is still too early for the reserve asset narrative—let’s first see whether the gains can hold.

The issue isn’t whether the U.S. dollar should be a reserve currency, but whether the U.S., already burdened with so much debt, can get out of it by switching to Bitcoin reserves. That’s probably wishful thinking.

Makes sense—Bitcoin is the ultimate hedge against denationalization.
