From “Trade and Leave” to “Grind Tasks to Level Up”: Gate Is Coming Up with New Ways to Make Its Platform More Engaging

If traditional trading platforms are like supermarkets, where users go in, buy what they need, and leave, then an event points system is more like placing an arcade machine at the supermarket entrance: users can earn points by shopping, participating in activities, and completing tasks.
Users may originally plan to “buy and leave,” but then they notice the progress bar for their points and suddenly have a thought: “I’m already here, so why not play a little longer?”
That is the appeal of a points system.
Gate’s launch of an event points system is essentially strengthening the platform’s user engagement. For a platform, user activity is not an abstract metric, but an important factor determining the vitality of its ecosystem. There is clearly a difference in value between a user who merely registers an account and one who continuously participates in activities, trades, and follows new projects.
A points mechanism can connect these behaviors, gradually turning users from mere product users into participants in the platform ecosystem.
However, what truly determines whether this system can succeed is still the “sense of reward.” Users are not happy just because they can look at a string of numbers; they hope their points correspond to clearly defined benefits. If, in the future, points can be linked to event rewards, user benefits, or more ecosystem features, their practical value will increase further.
At the same time, the platform also needs to manage the pace of incentives. If points are too easy to earn, users will find them uninteresting; if they are too difficult to earn, users may start wondering, “Are they deliberately keeping these points away from me?” The ideal state is to make users feel that they “can reach the goal with some effort”—challenging, but not hopeless.
From this perspective, the event points system may be more than just a new feature; it could also represent an upgrade to Gate’s approach to user operations.
In the future, competition among trading platforms may not be limited to “who can offer more trading pairs,” but may also include “who can make users willing to stay for the long term.”
After all, attracting traffic is not difficult; the hard part is making users reluctant to leave once they arrive. If used appropriately, this “small carrot” of points could indeed become a soft weapon for platforms to retain users.
