Others trade by studying candlestick charts, while Gate users are starting to study the “points chart”
A very interesting change may be taking place following the launch of Gate’s event points system: in addition to watching prices, tracking trading volume, and researching market hotspots, users now have another “daily must-do” — studying points.
This actually aligns closely with the development logic of internet platforms. User retention has never relied solely on product features; it also requires continuous feedback. Games have levels, short-video platforms have engagement mechanisms, e-commerce platforms have membership tiers, and trading platforms can build their own “growth system” through points. Every time users complete an action, they receive immediate feedback, and this feedback reinforces their motivation to continue participating.
This is especially evident in event-based activities. Users no longer simply wait for an event to begin, claim rewards, and leave. Instead, they may continue following the rules and participating in activities in pursuit of higher scores. The platform therefore gains more stable user attention, while users receive clearer returns for their participation. This is what is often called “mutual commitment.”
But the biggest fear for a points system is one problem: rules that are too complicated.
If users need to open a dozen pages and study dozens of detailed rules just to figure out how to earn points, their hair may be half gone before they even accumulate any points. A good points system should let users know at a glance “what to do, how much they will get, and what it is useful for.” Simplicity, transparency, and predictability are the core of long-term operations.
In addition, points rankings may also create a certain competitive effect. When users see that others are clearly ahead in points, they can easily develop the mindset of “I can’t fall behind either.” For platforms, this mild competition can significantly boost participation in activities. But if tasks are designed too aggressively, they may also cause user fatigue.
Therefore, I believe the biggest highlight of Gate’s launch of its event points system is not the points themselves, but whether the platform can turn user participation into a lasting habit. If the mechanism becomes increasingly refined, users may genuinely shift from “only coming when they see an event” to “coming every day to see what else they can do today.”
By then, points will no longer be an auxiliary feature, but could become another “invisible candlestick chart” in the platform’s ecosystem.#我的七夕交易分享
