Market Update | August 17

Gold $XAUUSD is trading higher this morning at $4,401.75, up 0.41% on the day, as the precious metal continues its recovery into the new week. Silver is also showing strength, currently at $65.52, rising 1.26%.

The U.S. dollar is slightly softer against major currencies. USD/JPY fell 0.14% to 159.031, while USD/offshore yuan is holding around 6.74045. The mild dollar weakness is providing some support to gold and silver so far.

European equity markets opened on a cautious note:
• EUSTX50 is down 0.2%
• UK100 is slightly lower at -0.01%
• GER40 is down 0.03%

Oil prices are under clear pressure this morning. WTI crude has dropped 0.75% to $81.90, while Brent is down 0.57% at $88.64. The weakness in crude is adding to a more mixed risk tone across markets.

Overall picture: Gold is holding above the key 4,400 level with modest gains, supported by a softer dollar. Equities remain muted, while oil continues to face selling pressure. The environment currently favors precious metals over risk assets, but momentum still needs confirmation for a stronger directional move.

Stay patient and manage risk carefully.
