$ETH STAKING HITS RECORD 34.4% – 40.2 MILLION ETH LOCKED AS INSTITUTIONAL DEMAND GROWS

$ETH ‌ staking has reached a new all-time high, with approximately 34.4% of all ETH now locked in staking contracts, according to Token Terminal data .

The numbers: At the start of 2026, staking was at around 30%. It has steadily climbed to 34.4% – representing about 40.2 million ETH worth roughly $63 billion .

Why this matters: Large-scale staking restricts ETH's circulating supply while locking more tokens on-chain to earn yield. This creates fundamental supply-side pressure that supports ETH's long-term value proposition, even as prices remain range-bound near $1,880 .

Institutional angle: Fidelity plans to add ETH staking and quarterly cash distributions to its nearly $900 million Ethereum ETF, according to SEC filings . This could further accelerate the staking trend.
