Bitcoin Drops Below $64K as Gold Hits $4,435 — Is $66K the Breakout Level? ₿📉🥇🔥
Bitcoin slipped below $64,000 on Aug. 11, falling to a one-week low as investors turned increasingly defensive ahead of the U.S. CPI report.
At the same time, gold surged to around $4,435 per ounce, its highest level since June 5, as retail investors increased their demand for the traditional safe-haven asset.
BTC remains trapped below the critical $65,800–$66,000 resistance zone, making today's CPI reaction especially important.
💡 What's Happening?
✅ Bitcoin dropped below $64,000 and reached a one-week low.
✅ Gold climbed to approximately $4,435/oz, its highest level since June 5.
✅ Retail investors added around $50M into GLD on Aug. 5, its strongest single-day retail inflow since mid-March.
✅ GLD recorded approximately $637M in total inflows on Aug. 5.
✅ U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $244.4M in combined inflows on the same day.
✅ Investors have added around $1.4B to GLD so far in August.
✅ Bitcoin and gold continue to show a positive 90-day correlation.
✅ BTC remains below the 50-month EMA around $65,827.
✅ The $65,800–$66,000 zone remains the key resistance area.
⚠️ And now the biggest catalyst:
U.S. CPI — Aug. 12
📊 Why It Matters
The market is currently caught between two major forces:
Safe-haven demand vs. Bitcoin's breakout potential
Gold is attracting fresh capital as geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainty remains elevated.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin is struggling to reclaim the $65.8K–$66K resistance zone.
This creates an important setup ahead of CPI.
A cooler-than-expected inflation print could improve risk appetite and give BTC the catalyst needed to reclaim $66K.
But hotter-than-expected inflation could strengthen the dollar, pressure risk assets and keep Bitcoin below resistance.
The interesting part is that Bitcoin's correlation with gold has returned to levels associated with the "digital gold" narrative.
So the question is no longer simply whether Bitcoin can bounce.
The bigger question is:
🎯 Can Bitcoin Break $66K After CPI?
This zone could determine Bitcoin's next major move.
If BTC successfully reclaims $65,800–$66,000, buyers could trigger a stronger move toward higher liquidity.
A confirmed breakout above $66K could bring:
$68,000 → $70,000 → $73,000
But if BTC continues to reject the $65.8K–$66K area, sellers could remain in control and push price back toward lower support.
🔻 Downside Levels
$64,000 → $63,900 → $63,200 → $62,000
🔺 Upside Levels
$65,000 → $65,800 → $66,000 → $68,000 → $70,000 → $73,000
📈 Bitcoin Roadmap
For me, the key levels to watch are:
$64K → $65K → $65.8K → $66K → $68K → $70K → $73K
The first major signal is whether Bitcoin can reclaim the $65.8K–$66K resistance zone.
🟢 Bullish Scenario
Hold $64K
→ reclaim $65K
→ break $65.8K
→ confirm $66K breakout
→ target $68K
→ potentially challenge $70K–$73K
🔴 Bearish Scenario
Reject $65.8K–$66K
→ lose $64K
→ break $63.9K
→ target $63.2K
→ potentially revisit $62K
💡 My Bitcoin Take
Personally, I don't think Bitcoin's move below $64K is enough to confirm a major bearish trend yet.
The more important signal is the battle around $65.8K–$66K.
Bitcoin has been consolidating below this resistance while gold continues attracting defensive capital.
That makes CPI the potential catalyst for the next major expansion.
For me, $66K is the line in the sand.
Above $66K, Bitcoin could start opening the path toward $68K, $70K and potentially $73K.
Below $64K, however, the market could begin searching for liquidity around $63.9K, $63.2K and $62K. 👀
⚠️ CPI volatility can trigger rapid moves and liquidation cascades in both directions. If trading leveraged BTC positions, manage risk carefully and avoid assuming that the first move after the data will be the final direction.
Not financial advice. Always manage your risk.
