On January 19, several US non-profit organizations expressed concerns about former President Trump's issuance of the Meme coin TRUMP. Danielle Brian, Executive Director of the non-partisan government oversight project, pointed out that Meme coins often lack practical underlying business, are highly speculative, and may bring huge profits to their founders. She believes that the Trump group's attempts to address potential conflicts seem to be at odds with its own behavior, especially when it comes to conflicts of interest involving foreign governments.
Other critics include the nonprofit Campaign Legal Center and the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. Kedric Payne, General Counsel for the Campaign Legal Center, emphasized that the uniqueness of cryptocurrency lies in its potential for rapid and substantial returns, which adds controversy to the issuance of the Trump MEME coin.
