Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 29, according to publicly available market data, the “Big Short” Michael Burry built short positions in the semiconductor sector in stages from late June to early July, with targets including Nvidia, Applied Materials, the iShares Semiconductor ETF, and Micron Technology. Among these, around June 30 he began shorting near $198.09 for Nvidia, around $729.40 for Applied Materials, and around $642.80 for the iShares Semiconductor ETF, and in early July established a direct short position in Micron Technology near $1,051.87. Around July 24, he further increased his shorts on Micron Technology, Nvidia, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF.

As of the close of U.S. stocks on July 28, based on the initial batch of short positions built from late June to early July, Applied Materials had an unrealized profit of approximately 34.7%, the highest among the related tickers; the iShares Semiconductor ETF had an unrealized profit of approximately 23.3%, Micron Technology about 22.0%, and Nvidia about 0.5%. If, without considering the specific position weights, calculated using a simple average method, the semiconductor short portfolio’s stage unrealized profit is approximately 20.1%.

In addition, if the subsequent add-short portion is approximated using the July 24 closing prices, as of the close of U.S. stocks on July 28, Micron Technology, Nvidia, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF had unrealized profits of approximately 10.9%, 4.8%, and 6.4%, respectively, corresponding to a simple average unrealized profit of approximately 7.4%.

Due to the lack of specific information on short sizes, options structure, add-on proportions, and whether positions have been closed, it is currently not possible to calculate the actual profit amount.
