On July 29, Seoul Economic Daily reported that Lee Yewon, chair of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of South Korea, said that regulators are studying proposals to raise the investment threshold again for leveraged products in single stocks. In the future, it is not ruled out that investment eligibility will be restricted, and ordinary investors may be banned from participating, with participation limited to professional investors only.



Under South Korea’s Financial Consumer Protection Act, investors are currently divided into retail investors and professional investors. Professional investors typically need to meet requirements such as assets, income, and investment experience. For example, within the past five years, the month-end average balance of financial investment products must have been at least 50 million won for at least one year, and they must meet the relevant eligibility requirements.
