A warning: malicious code was discovered in the Apple App Store and Google Play store, which scans users’ images for crypto wallet recovery phrases...

Check Point reported that the malicious SparkKitty software was hidden inside apps disguised as tools for cryptocurrencies, messaging platforms, and games in app stores.

Once users grant permission to access their images, the malicious code scans the images for recovery phrases or private keys and uploads them to servers controlled by the attackers.

One infected app was downloaded on Google Play more than 10,000 times before it was taken down.

For this reason, we recommend buying cold wallet devices; or if you want to store funds on hot wallets, use a separate phone that you do not use in daily life
