Wu Says he learned that Strategy founder Michael Saylor said that Bitcoin’s biggest current risk comes from internal factions reshaping economic rights by changing consensus rules. He compares Bitcoin’s consensus rules to a constitution, opposes proposals such as BIP-110 transaction censorship, introducing more covenant mechanisms, and increasing block size, and believes these changes could weaken transaction freedom, the scarcity of block space, and network security, while also increasing verification costs and the attack surface. Saylor also said that as block subsidies continue to halve, miners will rely even more on transaction fees to maintain network security, and that weakening the fee market could affect long-term security budgets. He argues for keeping Bitcoin’s base layer simple, neutral, scarce, and secure, placing innovation in the periphery, and only modifying the protocol in a conservative manner when necessary.
