Why experienced investors increasingly bet on real assets: lessons from Robert Kiyosaki’s multi-year strategy.
Financial markets are responding more and more not only to corporate earnings or interest rates, but also to large-scale macroeconomic processes. The growth of US government debt, budget deficits, the long-term expansion of the money supply, and inflationary pressure are forcing many investors to rethink how to protect their capital. Against this backdrop, the author of *Rich Dad Poor Dad*, Robert Kiyosaki, has once again stated that he continues to stick to his long-standing strategy of accumulating gold, silver, and cryptocurrencies. His stance is not a short-term reaction to market fluctuations—it is a way of thinking shaped over decades of observing economic cycles.
According to Kiyosaki, his path into defensive assets began with silver back in 1965, when the United States stopped using the precious metal in most coins. He started accumulating gold after the end of the dollar’s peg to the gold standard in 1971. In his view, Bitcoin became a modern alternative to traditional stores of value, so he has been investing in it since 2012. Ethereum joined his portfolio much later—in 2022—which suggests a willingness to adapt an investment strategy to the development of the digital economy, rather than relying only on classic instruments.
The key idea of this strategy is not about forecasting the price of a single asset, but about preserving the purchasing power of capital over decades. Supporters of this approach believe that, amid rising government debt, money issuance, and periodic acceleration of inflation, assets with limited supply can play the role of a long-term component of a diversified portfolio. At the same time, none of these assets guarantees returns: precious metals may remain in a low-yield phase for years, while cryptocurrencies remain highly volatile and tied to significant risks.
In practice, Kiyosaki’s approach draws investors’ attention for several reasons:
1•a focus on the long term instead of short-term speculation;
2•diversification between traditional and digital assets;
3•an effort to protect capital from inflation and currency devaluation;
4•gradual accumulation of assets regardless of current market sentiment;
5•focus on global macroeconomic trends, not just daily news;
6•willingness to review the portfolio structure in line with changes in the financial system;
7•an awareness that any investment strategy requires its own analysis, risk assessment, and discipline.
Despite the popularity of Robert Kiyosaki’s views, his strategy is not a universal recipe for every investor. Financial goals, the level of acceptable risk, the investment horizon, and the structure of a personal portfolio can differ significantly. That is why the words of well-known investors should be seen as a reason for deeper analysis, not as a ready-made instruction to act. The most important principle remains independent market research, diversification of risks, and making decisions based on one’s own strategy—not only on the authority of certain experts.
