The market was quite interesting today. Rumor has it that an address transferred out 2,000 $BTC into circulation, and although the BTC price didn’t get smashed all the way down, it slowly recovered after bottoming out.
Many people are puzzled: with such a large amount of sell pressure, why couldn’t it knock the market down? In fact, once you break down the logic, it’s pretty clear.
First, there’s the question of scale. 2,000 BTC, based on the current price, is only roughly $120 million+ in value. Placed in today’s market depth, this really isn’t an extraordinary level of sell pressure. Especially after several rounds of declines, the floating supply over the short term has already been washed out to a large extent; this amount is easily absorbed by low-price buy orders.
More importantly, the ability to absorb is getting stronger. On-chain data shows that recently, whale addresses holding 10–10,000 BTC have accumulated nearly 20k BTC over the past week. On one side, dispersed sell pressure is being pushed outward; on the other, large capital is quietly picking up at lower levels. Coins are moving from retail hands to stronger players, so the price naturally doesn’t fall deeply.
There’s also an underlying logic: exchange BTC reserves have been steadily declining. Over the past six months, exchanges have seen net outflows of 78k BTC, and they’ve already touched the cycle’s low point. The market’s tradable liquidity is already shrinking. When big sell orders appear, it’s hard to form a sustained dumping effect—more often than not, they get digested all at once and don’t have follow-through.
Finally, there’s macro expectation support. The market is betting on the Fed’s potential rate-cut path. As long as the general direction of rate cuts doesn’t change, the bottom for risk assets has support. A single large-scale sell-off is more of a short-term sentiment disturbance; it can’t change the mid-term logic of capital.
In plain terms, it’s not that there’s no sell pressure in the market right now—it’s that someone is willing to pick it up from below. Real declines have never happened noisily. An overt, plainly signaled large sell-off may actually not be a bad thing.
