Someone asked Elon Musk to donate all his wealth by 2036, and he replied: “I am indeed planning to do something similar.”
The proposal came from Daron Acemoglu, the 2024 Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences. Musk had previously predicted that AI and robots would make money meaningless by 2036.
Acemoglu then said that since money would already be unimportant by then, Musk might as well donate the roughly $1 trillion fortune he described to charities no later than 2036.
Musk did not confirm the $1 trillion figure, nor did he accept the time limit of 2036—he only kept the words “something similar.” The recipients and how it would be carried out were not disclosed.
