Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 28, according to a report by the South China Morning Post, Goldman Sachs said that as China’s AI models see rapid growth in global usage, Chinese AI developers may in the future start charging commercial licensing fees to cloud platforms to host their open-weight models.

The report said that the performance of Chinese models such as Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 and Zhipu AI’s GLM-5.2 has already approached the United States’ top competitors, but because Chinese companies typically release models under open-source terms, overseas platforms and developers can freely download, modify, and host their core “weights,” which has also pushed relevant firms to seek more ways to monetize revenue.
