$BTC South Korean stocks plunged 8%, Changxin topped the A-share market on its debut
South Korean KOSPI fell more than 8% in a single day, triggering limits on algorithmic trading. Samsung and SK hynix led a deep sell-off in the memory sector; on the other side, Changxin Technology listed on the STAR Market and surged on its first day to top the A-share market by market value. An extremely lopsided行情—one cold, one hot—reflects a major turning point in the global memory landscape.
Market action divergence is not merely a coincidence of sentiment. The South Korean stock market is highly dependent on the two memory giants. The underlying logic of capital pricing has shifted: Changxin completed massive fundraising and its capacity-expansion pipeline is fully unlocked. Global DRAM is moving from oligopoly by three giants toward competition from multiple players, and the market begins to discount expectations that Korean manufacturers’ long-term pricing power will weaken. Combined with the huge gains previously accumulated by the Korean memory sector and forced liquidations from locally high-leverage ETFs, pessimistic expectations convergently released, driving a large pullback.
But it’s necessary to clarify structural differences within the sector: Changxin focuses on general-purpose DRAM, and in the short term it is difficult to challenge the HBM high-end segment controlled by Korean firms; the two compete in misaligned markets. In this round of South Korean stock declines, what’s being traded is the forward supply-overhang expectation for general memory, not the end of AI high-end memory momentum.
From a capital perspective, there is clear sector rotation: foreign capital has begun to reassess the value of China’s domestic memory industrial chain, while domestic semiconductor equipment and materials are set to see long-term incremental space. In the short term, global memory sector volatility will likely continue to amplify; going forward, the key focus should be on Changxin’s capacity-release cadence, the landing of HBM orders, and changes in spot prices.
