Tech Stocks Enter a “Fundamentals-Validation Period”

This round of broad chip-stock selloff released an important signal: the market is gradually moving from “believing in the future of AI” to a new stage of “validating AI profits.” The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index plunged more than 5%, and multiple AI hardware leaders declined in sync, indicating that capital is starting to focus more on real-world performance rather than future expectations.

Over the past year, the AI industry has driven global tech stocks to sustained record highs, with large amounts of capital flowing into chip, storage, equipment, and optical communications companies, creating a clear pattern of valuation expansion. But valuation gains ultimately require earnings support. If companies’ profit growth cannot continue to match market expectations, stock prices will naturally face pullback pressure.

A decline in oil prices could have improved overall market risk appetite, but clearly investors are paying more attention to the uncertainty in the AI sector right now. Capital would rather wait for more company earnings reports and capital expenditure data than continue chasing high-valuation sectors.

From a longer-cycle perspective, AI is still one of the most important technology mainlines for the next decade. Every major correction will weed out companies lacking competitiveness, while also creating new allocation opportunities for companies that truly have core technology, stable profitability, and a global customer base.
